EDIA – Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infraestruturas do Alqueva, S.A. was born in 1995.
It is a public limited company with an exclusively public share capital and belongs to the state corporate sector.
Its mission is to design, execute, build and operate the Alqueva Multipurpose Project (EFMA), thereby contributing to the economic and social development of its area of intervention: 20 municipalities in the districts of Beja, Évora, Portalegre and Setúbal.
With its head office located in Beja, the centre of the beneficiary region, EDIA’s strategic orientation whose priorities are making most of the Project based on “water” as a resource and increasing production and the profitability of investments in the infrastructures created to make the project a success.
EDIA contributes to the development not only of the region but also of the country. It is a strategic reference as manager of the Alqueva Multipurpose Project, a relevant instrument for boosting the economy.
Until closing the gates of the Alqueva spillways and its reservoir filled, EDIA was responsible for building the infrastructures.
Aware of its role in the region it was oriented towards business in order to associate centres of development with the Alqueva Project.
Today, EDIA is recognised in Portugal and abroad as a solid, strategic company that is vital to the project and ensures the profitability of its agricultural component in order to promote the region as an area of reference for new investments and setting up bridges between investors and local entrepreneurs with a view to partnerships in different business areas. It is also directly responsible for designing, building and operating the Alqueva Multipurpose Project infrastructures.
