
Located next to the Alqueva Dam, the Alqueva Centre is based on an interpretative overview of the Alqueva Projec, covering everything from the territory and its history, through the infrastructure construction phase and complementary actions, to the multiple functions of the development and its impact on both regional and national development.
The Alqueva Centre includes three main areas:
- Exhibition and multimedia space, featuring interactive content on the various aspects of the Alqueva Project;
- Two immersive rooms and an exhibition area, offering engaging visual and sensory experiences;
- Auditorium, with a capacity for 80 people, suitable for presentations, training sessions, and events.
Outside the Centre, visitors have the opportunity to see original equipment used in Alqueva’s infrastructure, providing them understand the scale and technical complexity of the system
Two interactive educational models are also featured:
- One illustrates the Alqueva and Pedrógão dams, simulating the reversible operation of the Alqueva hydroelectric power station;
- The other demonstrates how water is distributed between dams and irrigation reservoirs, offering a hands-on understanding of the Alqueva hydraulic system in a pratical and engaging way.
The Alqueva Centre whose aim to provide all essential information about the Alqueva Project to the thousands of visitors who come to the dam area each year, is open from Tuesday to Sunday.
