Luz Museum

The idea of a twin village was born after the submersion of Aldeia da Luz due to the construction of the Alqueva Dam and subsequent relocation of the village.

Luz Museum (Mourão, Évora) interprets the profound changes in the territory, such as the reconfiguration of the landscape and resulting social and cultural adjustment.

The museum is not limited to its collection and constitutes an opportunity to document the naturally rocky change process on the basis of a common past by refreshing memories for reconstruction of the village in a new setting.

The museum interprets general aspects like the region’s landscape, water and new identity and places it in the Alqueva area as a space of culture, art, memories and modernity.

The education service at Luz Museum organises group activities, themed visits, walks and trips (by boat or canoe).
