One of EDIA’s tasks is to draw up cultural heritage monitoring plans for the area of EFMA integrated infrastructures. These plans are a requirement of EFMA Environmental Management Programme and of specific measures set out in the environmental impact statements of the different projects.
Monitoring of cultural heritage has already been considered necessary focuses particularly on construction of dams and their reservoirs. This is because the dynamics of these bodies of water may alter the physical conditions of heritage in the area. This situation is most critical in areas where water levels vary the most (inter-level areas).
The most complex cultural heritage monitoring plan is on the Alqueva Reservoir, due to its size and the vast amount of heritage there.
EDIA’s monitoring of most sensitive areas will ascertain the status of existing heritage and it will take action to protect it when necessary and within its responsibilities.
